Right, then...
Looking at buying some tires from tire rack and having one of their affiliates mount them...has anyone done this? It feels slightly sketch, like I could show up to some jenky shop and then they don’t have the tires or won’t mount the cos they don’t feel like it. Irrational fear?

I’ve done it a couple of times, once using a Tire Rack installer, and once using a shop I normally go to. Both were painless, but the installer you could ship the tires straight to the shop. Otherwise you have to ship them to your house and then take them over with you.

Everything I've bought from tire rack has been legit. But I only get them shipped to my US PO box. Then I drag them to Canada

When I’ve bought from them, I just had the shipped to me, and installed by my normal shops.
I don’t think there’s too much reason to be concerned about using their affiliates though, I’m sure Tire Rack would fix anything if it didn’t go right, and you can dispute the chargers if things go very wrong.

I’ve had multiple sets delivered to a local installer (NTB usually) as well as had them delivered to my apartment to be mounted later. TireRack is legit and their partner installers have to be in order to get approved.
The only times I don’t order from TireRack are when I can find a slightly better deal elsewhere (Discount Tire Direct or SimpleTire.com).

I’ve bought quite a few set of tires from Tire Rack and had them shipped to a dealer or tire installer and never had an issue.
In fact, over 10 years as a Tire Rack customer and I'd rate them 100% satisfactory: I've never had an issue of any kind when buying from them.

I have, once. E verything went smooth . Placed order, tires s ent to a local tire shop, made appointment for mounting/balancing/alignment , called again later to confirm that the tires had arrived , brought the car in and got ’ er done. I will probably be getting tires again from them soon. (Anybody got any coupon codes?)

I’ve done Tire Rack and Tire Buyer many, many times and both were great.

Yes, absolutely no problem, they have been around a long time, did big mail order business before the interwebs became a thing. Yeah, anyway no issues with a handful of purchases, though as somebody else said I shop around, Discount Tire Direct and Simple Tire also have very good selection and prices.
The installers they use locally are all decent shops in my area.

I’ve bought from them twice. Both times shipped to my house. First time I used a local shop, second time was for a car that doesn’t run.

A few times. I live near their Denver warehouse and I used to be a fleet manager. I bought tires from them a couple times and had the shop that did most of my work vehicle maintenance mount them. T hey had no issues doing that.

Tire rack is good stuff. We’ve been buying from them since the 90's. I’ve never had anything shipped directly to an installer. I just have the order shipped to my house and then I installed at the shop of my choice.

My only experience with them was buying a wheel and tire combo. Shipped to my house already mounted and balanced. Worked out perfectly.

Just make sure you like the stop you ship them to. I’ve had many good experiences with the only meh one being the stop being a bunch if dipperydoo’s and not knowing who the tires belonged to. I had called ahead to let them know they were coming AND made an appointment. Then when I showed up for the appointment they were like “ohhhhhhhhhh those are tires are yours! That makes sense now.” and I was like “yeah, that should have made sense already since I called ahead, made an appointment, and my name is on both the tires and the appointment.”

Yeah. I have a shop I love and they are one of their affiliates. I asked them one time if they would be offended if I ordered from TireRack and had it shipped to the shop, they said no, but we could talk before I ordered to make sure it was a good choice. I ignored that, but they were still happy to do the install.

Great experience with tire rack - no experience with the ship to shop, but the concept seems great assuming you’ve vetted the shop to your liking.
Sore of related, I did a mobile tire service with the fiat tires and I was extremely satisfied with that level of ease. They cam to my office, did everything right where the car was parked while I worked. It was seamless and very affordable as well. I guess to make this relevant , you never know how it’ll go until you experience it.

Based on this thread I’m going to give Tire Rack a shot. I called a shop about 2 miles from my house to confirm that they take Tire Rack deliveries, they said go ahead and order the tires and when I get delivery confirmation call to make an appointment. Seems like a no brainer to me, especially cause I can drop my car at this shop on the way to work, take the metro 2 blocks away, and pick it up on my way home. What’s not to love?

I’ve used Tire Rack about 7-8 times now have been satisfied every time. They did botch the balancing of wheel+tire set order once, but provided reimbursement to get it corrected without much hassle. I’ve only done the shop delivery once though, and it was to an enthusiast-friendly shop I was already familiar with.

If they’re on TireRack’s installer list, you should be fine.
I would like to mention that often times buying from TireRack does seem like a deal, until you factor in tax and the fact that many tire shops might charge more for mounting, balancing and valve stems than they would if you bought the tires from them. That last one alone sometimes makes the price difference nil.
All depends. If I’ve got a decent relationship with a tire shop, I tend to want to just give them their profits on the tires. But I use the hell out of Tirerack for reviews to make up my mind on what exact tires I want with the money I’m willing to spend.

Yes, but they don’t have an installer around my area so I got fucked on installation. Should have just bought from Discount tire to begin with.

I’ve ordered from fire rack with no problem, but have started getting my tires from Amazon. Very cheap tires on Amazon. You should check there before ordering.

I have done it multiple times I normally have them shipped to my house and then take them to my favorite discount (no English) tire shop but I have also had them shipped directly to the Firestone dealer. The only problem I've ever had is when they closed all of the Firestone dealers in Utah but even then they just had me pick up my tires.

Tire Rack is great! Bought tires and headlight bulbs from them in the past, and will definitely do it again. Highly recommended.
They’re actually the tire supplier for an VW/Audi/Porsche dealer in the US I go to. Y ou order tires from their service dept, and pay whatever price Tire Rack has on their site. They install the tires for $80/set, and handle all the warranty claims for you.
One tire I bought from them got a bubble in the sidewall; TR replaced the tire under warranty, and that dealer did the labor for free. Solid experience all around.
